Gençlerbirliği claimed a vital three points with a 1-0 win over Çaykur Rizespor in Ankara, in a contest that became increasingly physical as it wore on. Can Keleş scored the only goal of the game, sealing the result and standing out as the most influential player on the pitch.
The home side did not look especially dangerous in attack, but they made their chance count. Both teams finished with five shots apiece, and Gençlerbirliği’s defensive discipline proved decisive during the periods when they had less of the ball. Two saves from Ramazan Can Özkan kept the score unchanged, particularly when Rizespor tried to turn the screw.
Çaykur Rizespor had the better of possession at times and also completed more passes than their opponents. Even so, they could not find the finishing touch when it mattered most. High ratings for Eren Kütük and Ali Başaran reflected the visitors’ resilience, but it was not enough to earn a point.
With this win, Gençlerbirliği moved up from 9th to 8th place. Rizespor finished the week in 6th, maintaining their touch with the title race but missing a valuable opportunity.
