The TEFL Week 17 clash between Samsunspor and Çaykur Rizespor was every bit as tight as the single goal that decided it. With both sides creating only a handful of chances, Samsunspor found the moment that broke the deadlock and came away with a 1-0 win.
The standout difference for the home side was Batuhan Alyas. The young goalkeeper kept a clean sheet with four saves and repeatedly denied Çaykur Rizespor’s attempts to stay in the game. Samsunspor’s back line also gave their opponents little room to work with, so Çaykur Rizespor’s greater share of possession was not enough to change the outcome. Atahan Dönmez’s strong rating was a sign of the visitors’ resilience during spells of the match, but it did not translate into points.
Samet Karpuzoglu scored the only goal of the game. Samsunspor did not look especially dangerous going forward, but they made the most of the limited chances that came their way and saw the match out in controlled fashion. Çaykur Rizespor pushed harder in the closing stages, yet could not find the finishing touch they needed.
With this result, Samsunspor moved up to 38 points and climbed into third place. Çaykur Rizespor stayed on 33 points and slipped to fifth.
