Volkan Kaya keeps Kayserispor level with Kocaelispor

The scoreboard never moved in Kayseri, but Kocaelispor were the side carrying most of the load. The visitors had more shots and enjoyed more of the ball, yet they could not turn that into a decisive final touch, while Kayserispor held firm defensively to leave with a point.

Volkan Kaya was the standout performer. The experienced centre-back looked assured at the heart of the Kayserispor defence and was named his side’s most effective player with an 8.4 rating. In a spell where the home team limited the pressure on target, Volkan Kaya’s composed display became one of the key reasons the match ended goalless.

For Kocaelispor, it was a night when control of the game did not translate into goals. The green-and-blacks looked the more fluent side with 179 passes, and while they found more space than Kayserispor’s more direct approach, which featured 101 passes, they kept running into a dead end in the final action. For Kayserispor, meanwhile, the draw was a welcome morale boost after a heavy defeat in recent weeks.

With this result, Kayserispor dropped from 11th to 12th, while Kocaelispor slipped from 8th to 10th.
